Their philanthropy work is prominent in two major sections: donor and advocacy. With science now being in question by administrations and individuals, public information fabricated throughout media outlets, and the revoking actions such the Paris Agreement, society has the responsibility of playing catch up. We are now facing an imminent need to reverse our plastic consumption, carbon emissions, water waste, pollution, and many other factors that go into the deterioration of the planet’s well-being. Knowing the necessity for change, Vitaolgy has directly imprinted themselves within the “environment” sector to enact direct impact.
Carbon Mitigation
Established in 2003, Pearl Jam has calculated its carbon dioxide output in metric tons for every world tour. This entails band and crew flights, hotel stays, truck and bus mileage, shipping weight (converted from miles/mode of transportation), and the number of fans in attendance at each show. With these calculations, they are able to allocate a portion of their tour earrings and give it back to environmental projects that combat and offset carbon emissions.

With aluminum water bottles, filtered water stations, recycled materials used at food concession stands, and many other renewable resources, this festival has a positive impact on the surrounding environment.
Combating Homelessness
Vitalogy believes they can combat homelessness by working together to grow civic and societal engagement. Pearl Jam has created The Home Shows, a program to tackle homelessness in King County. Calling Seattle and the Pacific Northwest home, Pearl Jam has partnered with local businesses, organizations, and other foundations to stop homelessness where it starts. They work with individuals and families to connect them with affordable, permanent housing and allow them to gain support systems. With 11 million dollars already contributed from philanthropy partners and donors, this program continues to bring hope to those experiencing houselessness.
Indigenous Causes
Pearl Jam has worked in the background for decades, trying to bring awareness to highly neglected tribal groups. Their carbon mitigation efforts have gone to protect and preserve the Amazon and its inhabitants. Not only does this effort help regulate climate, stimulate rainfall, and retract billions of tons of carbon, it also helps strengthen the land for the indigenous people. The Kayapo Nation of the Amazon live and thrive off the natural resources, and their view of earth is inherently different from the industrial West. The Kayapo Project contains the work that is being done to protect said land and tribes with the support of Vitalogy.
Charitybuzz
Charitybuzz is an online marketplace filled with donated items up for auction. They partner with many local festivals and contribute raffles to give people a greater chance to win monumental items. Vitalogy has partnered with Charitybuzz to auction off items such as Harry Styles and Post Mahlone concert tickets, LA Lakers vs. Clipper basketball game tickets, and many others, with the profits from the bids supporting the Vitalogy Foundation. Pearl Jam has also put in an item of theirs to be auctioned off - an electric guitar signed by all five band members. Charitybuzz held a stand at this year’s Ohana Festival, where the auction for these items first began. These auctions can normally be held from days to weeks, depending on if the raffle/auction was for the purpose of an event.
